Motorola is announcing a new phone at Mobile World Congress in February

Motorola is set to launch a new phone in Barcelona next month prior to the start of Mobile World Congress.

The annual show has become a traditional venue for manufacturers to launch phones for the European market, but many of them end up in North America and beyond.

Motorola is holding its event at 4:30pm on February 26, and while it's unclear what the Lenovo subsidiary is launching at this point, based on the render in the vague invite, it's unlikely to be part of its Moto Z line.

It's possible it may be another Moto X product, or a variant of the Moto M, which was released in Asia late last year, but the likely scenario is a new Moto G, which is due for a refresh after the successful Moto G4 and G4 Plus.

We'll have to wait and see; MWC 2017 is only a short time away!

  • Leaks suggest new fifth gen Moto G.
  • Or the Moto C that people have been calling the Moto X.
  • ...I just want new Moto Mods.
  • YES. Please be a proper update to the Moto X line.
  • I hope that it will be a smaller phone with decent specs.
  • Z x m g????¿??? Could someone please explain the difference? I thought it was iterative but now circling back to g?
  • Fifth generation G.
  • The letters are not iterative, they exist side-by-side in different classes. E is their low-end line. G is their budget line. Z is their modular line. X was their top line before the Z line came along. M seems to maybe fall between the G and X/Z?
  • Thanks for explaining.
  • Moto, please don't join the 700 club. That's all I ask.
  • They aren't selling well in the 600 club either. I have really liked my 2014 Moto X PE. It continues to be an outstanding phone for me. Even so, at $450 (what I paid back in early 2015), it was a stretch to justify paying that much for a phone, let alone $250-$300 more.
  • 5" high end Moto X... No mods no gimmicks. A solid phone with that Moto X design from 2014.
  • IMO, if Motorola took the 2014 X design, put a SD821 or 835 in it, made the speakers stereo, and added the fingerprint scanner where the dimple is, even keeping a full HD display, it would be the phone of the year, and would sell like hotcakes.
  • Exactly. That's the best looking phone ever made imo
  • Agreed, still love my 2014 X PE. All I'd add to the wish list is better battery and camera. Perfect dimensions IMHO.
  • Thicker, bigger battery, and leather. A man's phone, dammit. Something I can actually tell I'm holding.
  • Yes, and upgrade to the X would be nice. I have a Droid Turbo 2. I am happy with it, however, I wish it had a better camera and fingerprint reader. The Z is too damn big! Plus I want a headphone jack as Bluetooth Audio quality sucks!
  • Still using 2nd gen X.. that actually got a remarkable improvement in battery life after M6.0..
2yrs later no other OEM has managed to do active display that actually works as well as Moto display..
and for a 2yr old design it's got a very respectable screen to body ratio...
Moto maker.. who else has managed to offer a customisable phone..
It was described by AC at the time as a device that's more than the sum of its parts.
That's how I feel after 2yrs daily use..
The longer I use the more respect I have for the folks that made it.
Not sure if it's ever gonna get the hardware makeover it deserves, sort of gave up on Lenovo and hoping that maybe the Pixel with Osterloh at the helm would introduce some of Moto's software hardware design magic..
  • I got the Moto X 2014 for my step mother when it came out. Unlocked, custom white with pink accents.. She loves it, it still works flawlessly. Not one single complaint in all this time. It's one of the best devices ever made. I know it could use a better camera, but she's happy with it.
  • I hope the new Moto g looks like the Moto m
  • Of course it's not another Z. It's 6 months too early for that. It's obviously a new G or E. I'm suspecting an E.
  • The Z is a concept phone that shouldn't exist. These people are so disconnected from the market it's ridiculous.
  • Yeah, they've lost their minds if they think ditching X is a good idea.
  • The Z is a great phone. You don't need the mods if you don't want them.
  • If only there were, say 26 letters available, and numbers that stretch all the way from 0 to, say 9.
Just think of the naming possibilities then!
  • MOTO doesn't exist
  • Most likely G or E line. Flagship probably summer time again with stupid crappy carrier exclusive.
