Can a wiener dog even swim effectively at all? Would think the body mass to leg ratio would be too big to tread water very well.

They actually aren't that bad, my friends short hair ween loves to swim but my long hair doesn't want to mess up his fluffy locks.

Yes the can! They even have webbed feet!

I had a wiener dog for 12 years and I can confirm that they can swim effectively.

It looks silly but it works!

They most certainly can, quite well in fact.

Personal story to back me up, so, once my father and I were out in the middle of a massive lake just chilling on a big floatation device with our Weiner dog, suddenly the skies start to get darker and next thing you know, thunder roars in the distance. Now we must have been about a kilometre or more from shore, immediately the dog jumps in the water and abandons us and swims the whole way over in an extremely short period of time, as we frantically try to get back to safety with our floaties. Never seen a dog swim so fast before.

Think about otters!

Also daschunds are built for digging - so it makes sense they'd be alright swimmers as they have paws designed for scooping

My wiener dog swims well but he hates it unless it’s the tub and warm water. https://i.imgur.com/qJKBbK3.jpg

My mini long haired hates all things h20 related. He hates baths I can’t imagine my lil wieners reaction to a predicament like this one.

Got a friend who owns the founding stock for dock diving dachshunds...They went to Florida last year to compete in the national championships. Yes, they can swim, but it is for sure a individual thing...I have three who hate being in water, and my fourth doesn't care one way or the other. There are definitely weiners who really love water, though!

His little legs were kicking like he was trying to swim!

According to all known laws of the water, the wiener dog shouldn’t be able to swim. It’s small legs are too short to keep its long body above the water line. The wiener dog, of course, swims anyway, because wiener dogs don’t care what humans think are impossible.
