It should pass only the matched length, not the original string length.
Caught by -fsanitize=address while trying to parse "some string (DEBUG)"
Probaby deserves a unit test.

with incomplete log lines very well.  This seems to fix some cases.
But, I was still able to replicate a lockup at one point, so it
